Trapping/Trapline Projects
Trapper Involvement Program
EVR has played an integral role in the creation of a Manitoba Hydro ‘Trapper Involvement Program’. This ongoing initiative continues to improve relationships between Manitoba Hydro and the trapping community in various regions throughout Manitoba. A very interesting component to the program is the field investigations that we’ve established with local area trappers where they are collecting baseline data that will assist in determining future mitigation applications and also support a firmer understanding of what impacts (positive and negative) linear developments have on fur bearers and trapping success.
Best Management Practices for Forestry and Trap lines
Contracted through the Manitoba Trappers Association, EVR delivered a final draft of best management practices that were created to alleviate conflicting matters between forest operations and trappers in eastern Manitoba. The project incorporated previous trapline inventory work conducted by EVR. The main goals of these projects were to eliminate conflict beforehand by way of foresters knowing where trappers’ cabins, trails and high valued trapping areas were and introducing mitigating measures. Communication is paramount for the success of this ongoing work in progress.
